The carrier image is loaded onto an HTML5 Canvas to access raw 32-bit RGBA pixel buffers. The secret message string is converted into a UTF-8 binary bitstream terminated with a unique delimiter. The tool then replaces the least significant bit (bit 0) of each red, green, and blue color byte with a bit of secret data. Because changing the least significant bit alters a color channel by at most 1/255th, the visual shift is completely imperceptible to the human eye.
